How we test and rate software

This page describes the standard every review on Stack Verdict Review is held to.

What we do for every review

  1. We use the product. We sign up, use the free plan or trial where one exists, and work through the tasks the tool is built for.
  2. We check pricing on the vendor’s own site. Every review shows the date pricing was last checked. Prices change often, so treat that date as part of the information.
  3. We name who it is for and who should skip it. Each review states a best-fit reader and at least one clear reason to choose something else.
  4. We list drawbacks. If we cannot find a real downside, we have not tested enough.

How we handle affiliate relationships

Affiliate commissions do not decide which products we cover or how we describe them. A product that pays nothing can still be recommended, and a product that pays well can still get a poor review.

Keeping pages current

We re-check pricing and features on a regular schedule and update the date shown on the page. If a vendor changes something important, we update the page and the date.
